Be sure to connect the ribbed lead to the silver terminal and the other to the gold. Put the socket together. Pull the wire back through the bent piece so the cap/socket assembly hangs where you want it to. There should be enough friction to keep it in place. If not, cut a wedge to fit into the hole in the base so you can tap it in to keep the wire from moving. Add a bulb and the glass globe to finish things off. Refer to the electrical section on page 8 for more information regarding the specifics of the electrical connections.

Drive a screw into the bottom of the hole in the base and wrap the colored ground wire around it to serve as an anchor for the fixture. Lamp cords don’t usually have a ground wire, so you can cut off any excess. Feed the end of the lamp cord up through the hole in the cover plate. Make sure the outside of the cover is toward the plug end of the cord. Tie an overhand knot in the cord so it cannot pull back through the hole. Leave about 4" of wire beyond the knot to make the connections. Split the wire into two separate leads and strip about ½ ” of insulation off of each.

Then cut and sand it to shape. Hold the pattern on the centerline to lay out the curves on your work piece. TWO If the grain in your lamp runs from side to side (horizontally), You can drill the hole on a drill press. Extend the center line across the top and bottom of the piece and drill the hole from either end with a ½ ” bit. If your drill press has a limited travel (mine only goes 3") drill as far as you can and stop the machine. Raise the table with the bit in the hole, then start and drill to the limit of the bit’s length.
